The effect of the timeshare industry on a community

The following benefits may surprise you as these go beyond those offered by traditional tourism forms like hotels and others. Here are some of the positive effects that timeshare offers on a community.

  1. Stable jobs: From sales staff to construction workers, timeshare generates several jobs for the community. The jobs are at various levels like executives, service staff, architects, and more.
  2. Repeat Tourism: Timeshare encourages repeat tourism in the community which results in a more stable economy. With this scenario, business providers and investors can easily predict the needs of the community in terms of services and infrastructure.
  3. Promotion of the Destination: The destination’s profile will increase amongst all kinds of visitors including those who are still curious about the timeshare industry. The positive feedback and promotions to friends and families raise other people’s awareness. Only when people feel that they belong can they have this kind of support.
  4. Tax Generation: Tax generation that extends to VAT as well as income tax on earnings is another great benefit that the timeshare offers to a destination. Those working in the industry and especially those who come into the place spend their money in the local economy. More taxes are generated and these are plowed back into the local economy. As a result, services and infrastructure improve.
  5. Extension of the Period of Stay: Timeshare owners usually chose to stay for longer periods of time in their chosen destinations.
  6. Higher Purchasing Power: Timeshare destination benefits from visitors with higher purchasing power. They spend more on local services, restaurants, and other items. The certain level of income that owners have is one of the requirements when they desire to become timeshare owners.
  7. No Competition Against Traditional Hotels: Hotels usually cater to visitors who do not necessarily visit more than once or twice. This means that people who return to a destination to stay at their timeshare are not the same individuals that hotels target. The two industries complement one another and not compete against each other.
  8. Local Community Involvement: Timeshares are not always all-inclusive. There are some who would choose an all-inclusive option but most visitors would rather spend money in local stores and dining places.
  9. Constant Occupancy: Timeshare helps provide a consistent level of occupancy, supporting other branches of the tourism industry like car rentals, restaurants, travel agencies, and other local trade.

There is no denying that timeshare provides a positive impact on its community.

Adeprotur and Timeshare

January 16, 2018 at 11:34 am

Adeprotur promotes the integral development and sustainable growth of the timeshare industry in Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta through a strict ethical code and high standards of commercialization. It advises the providers of timeshares as they develop and helps with the commercialization of their product by informing them of, and guiding them through, the programs and plan which have been put in place to regularize and demystify the industry as a whole. The 2015 – 2017 board is made up of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and four Chairpersons.

Adeprotur and transparency

By encouraging ethics and professionalism in the industry through transparency of process from advertising to the point of sale Adeprotur makes the vacation club and timeshare industries less intimidating to the uninitiated. Adeprotur seeks to do all of this by defining a voluntary code of conduct which stipulates integrity and sustainability in all growth within the sector. The end aim is to promote a culture of innovation and ethical growth which will benefit the region at large.

Standardization

Adeprotur was created in 1986 by five founders which shared the vision of regulating, standardizing, and creating transparency within the timeshare and vacation club industries within Banderas Bay. Currently it has no less that 24 associates, and enjoys contracts and agreements with the federal government and private companies. Of course, their short term objective is to support the many vacation clubs in the region through their affiliates thereby standardizing a certain level of service.

This is so very important because of the value that timeshares bring to the area, but also because of the damage done to the industry’s reputation in its early days. Systematic procedures were developed by the association in the 1980’s to enable the commercialization of any property (at the time 180 or so properties, but today there are over 500 timeshare developments in the country).

The value in this industry lies not just in the continual investments into infrastructure that they generate, but in the repeat nature of the tourism they bring in. This is invaluable to the economy of many tourist towns.

Puerto Vallarta Timeshare Presentations Scams

August 24, 2015 at 11:44 am

Mexico has, sadly, has received a lot of unfounded negative attention when it comes to timeshare presentation scams, and this is largely due to a spate of scams that occurred during the 80s and 90s. These scams, of course, did a lot of damage to Mexico’s reputation as a safe place to invest in timeshares. What the media, and many others, however fail to understand is that these scams resulted in a tightening of security that means that, these days, Mexico (and, in particular, Puerto Vallarta) is one of the safest places in the world when it comes to timeshare investment.

Puerto Vallarta Timeshare Presentations Scams

When people ask the question “are there timeshare scams in Puerto Vallarta” the simplest answer is “no” because timeshare companies are highly regulated in the area, including Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit on Banderas Bay. There will always be criminals and con artists on the job in all parts of the world, but you’re more thoroughly protected from these people in Puerto Vallarta than you are in many other places.

Puerto Vallarta timeshare scam review

These days a timeshare rep in Puerto Vallarta must have official permission (indicated by the identification they are issued) to approach people in the street and in public spaces to promote their companies timeshares. So if you’re approached by a promoter that you have suspicions about you can look for their ID (it should be visible) or ask to see it if it’s not clearly visible. If they cannot produce it then don’t entertain them any further; move on and report them to the authorities.

Despite the bad reputation timeshare companies in Puerto Vallarta seem to attract, the services offered can actually be a gift to tourists and help maintain the levels of visitors to a destination throughout the year rather than just during the high season. Timeshare reps in Puerto Vallarta will be very knowledgeable about the area they work in so if you’re lost, or want some advice, just ask them to help you! Furthermore most legitimate timeshare companies will offer genuine, no strings gifts to people who attend their presentations. This means for one or two hours of your time, with no purchase expected, you could get a discount on taxis, activities or attractions.

In Puerto Vallarta you’re as protected from fraudsters as it’s possible to be. So why not relax and consider a presentation – even if it’s just for the restaurant vouchers?

Tips for Taking a Vacation during Hurricane Season

July 17, 2015 at 8:34 am

Budget conscious travelers are often tempted by travel companies to take their vacations “off-season” with cheap flights, resort prices and little extras. Resorts, cruise-liners and airlines all hop onto this bandwagon. With cheaper flights, shorter lines, and better prices for all inclusive packages you might wonder what, precisely, makes off-season… well, off season? Contrary to what some people think it has nothing to do with the school vacations and everything to do with the weather.

You see from June 1st to November 30th is the Atlantic and Pacific hurricane season! Though the peak season for hurricanes is actually August to October so travelling at either end of the season is slightly lower risk than in these months. Nonetheless it is still a risk so you should have a contingency plan in place, just to be sure. The media attention surrounding hurricanes should give you an idea of what to expect should one hit while you’re away. Here are our top 6 tips to ensure that your Caribbean or tropical vacation isn’t ruined should a hurricane land when you’re due to get away.

  1. Check the small print for cancellation options
  2. Until recently it was pretty common for resorts, vacation rentals and other such places in the hurricane belt to have, what were commonly called, “hurricane guarantees”. In recent years, however, these have become less usual. When a hurricane is on its way and flights are grounded most flights will waive the usual change fees and allow you to rebook your travel within a certain time, so make sure that where you’re staying will allow you the same provisions. Ask your resort or hotel about their hurricane guarantees.

  3. Determine how to abandon your trip (should you need to)
  4. It’s one thing to cancel your trip before you go, if you have the right insurance it shouldn’t be an issue, is one thing, but it’s entirely another thing to be on your vacation when a hurricane lands. Look into the details of your accommodation and flights before you go to find out just what you can and can’t do in the event of an evacuation or hurricane. You’ll probably be safe sticking where you are if one sneaks up on you, but you certainly won’t have the vacation you envisioned.

  5. Invest in good travel insurance
  6. The right level of travel insurance coverage can make vacation nightmares much easier to deal with in the long run. Basic coverage for hurricanes will ensure that you’re reimbursed for all pre-paid costs should your accommodation be rendered uninhabitable. If you’d like to option to cancel should a hurricane look likely you should pay a little extra for “cancel for any reason” coverage which will guarantee you full reimbursement no matter why you cancel.

  7. Do a little forward thinking
  8. A little planning can go a long, long way if you come face to face with an emergency situation, or weather hazards:

    • Make sure you have a simple travel medical portfolio for everyone
    • Make up a basic travel medical kit in case someone needs basic medical attention and there’s no way to get to a doctor’s surgery.

Of course staying well out of the path of any hurricanes is the best plan of action for anyone, but there are times when they can catch you off guard. For this reason it pays to be prepared.

  9. Pay attention to the weather
  10. Keeping one step ahead when it comes to hurricane season is absolutely essential when it comes to being able to get out of the way in good time. The following things can be indicators of oncoming hurricanes: unusually heavy rainfall, storm surges, high winds, and inland flooding. The National Weather Service is, of course, always keeping an eye out during the season, and will put out warnings, but you should never ignore any signs you see.

  11. Have a plan B
  12. If you’ve invested in “cancel for any reason” coverage then you should have a backup plan in effect. This means that if you think a hurricane is on its way you can cut your losses, cancel and book a backup vacation to make sure that you don’t miss out on. After all, vacation time is precious.
